Recommendation for Transmission Fluid and Filter Change — Many quick lube oil change companies are using transmission flush machines to change the automatic transmission fluid. Flush machines do not address the need for cleaning the sediment in the transmission pan, cleaning the magnet inside the transmission pan, or changing the transmission oil filter. By taking the transmission pan off, sediment in the pan as well as the magnet can be cleaned, and the fluid filter can be changed. Manufacturers recommend a filter change with the oil change, and recommend against the use of flushing machines due to possible fluid contamination from pan sediment. Increasing Demands Are Being Placed on Transmission Fluids
Automatic transmissions have become increasingly complex as vehicle manufacturers strive to improve efficiency while satisfying consumer demands. Today's automatic transmissions are built to smaller design specifications than yesterday's transmissions. Shorter automobile frames and innovative drive train designs have called for transmissions to be scaled down and, at the same time, have tighter tolerances and higher energy densities than ever before. These design changes have caused transmissions to generate more heat, which has placed a demand on transmission fluids past anything the industry has seen before. The combination of higher operating temperatures and reduced oil volumes calls for fluids that can not only maintain performance at higher temperatures, but must also meet the longer service life that original equipment manufacturers are recommending. Traditional automatic transmission fluids are unable to meet these extreme requirements and new fluids have emerged with each new advancement in transmission engineering. AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is formulated with the highest-quality components to exceed the most stringent industry standards.
Mechanics Say a Quality ATF is the Best Defense Against Automatic Transmission Breakdown
Of all the stresses that ATF encounters, heat is the most destructive. Most automatic transmission failures are caused by heat. Transmission life expectancy is directly related to how well the fluid is able to disperse heat and maintain temperatures within normal operating ranges. When conventional petroleum fluids are subjected to high heat and heavy loads, they break down to form sludge and varnish. Over time, these varnishes and lack of lubrication can cause seals to harden, leaks to occur, plates to slip and, finally, seals and clutches to burn out when the oil forms carbon. Mechanics say a quality ATF is the best defense against automatic transmission breakdown (a costly repair).
"I grew tired of reworking transmissions and changed to AMSOIL Synthetic Transmission Fluid, resulting in a drastic reduction in transmission failures." – G.H., Ozark, Alabama
Protects Hot Transmissions, Faster Cold-Weather Starts, Improved Fuel Efficiency
Hot temperatures are no excuse for poor reliability. Naturally heat resistant and heavily fortified with anti-oxidants, AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF exceeds the most demanding oxidation requirements. It delivers outstanding protection against sludge and varnish deposits that clog narrow oil passages and contribute to clutch glazing. Transmissions can operate hotter and longer with AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF than with conventional automatic transmission fluids.
Not only does AMSOIL Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid cool and protect hot-running transmissions far better than conventional fluids, but it also remains fluid down to -63° F. The efficiency of an automatic transmission is directly affected by the viscosity of the transmission fluid. Cold, thick automatic transmission fluid lengthens shift times and reduces energy efficiency (fuel economy). AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF is wax-free and delivers extraordinary cold-flow properties, exceeding the the cold-temperature fluidity required by current automatic transmission fluid specifications. That means that while some fluids barely circulate in a cold transmission, AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF is on the job, providing outstanding lubrication and protection, easier cold-weather starts, faster warm-ups, smoother shifting and improved fuel efficiency.
Outstanding Wear Protection During Severe-Duty Service
Varying speeds and loads causes torque multiplication and extreme stress on gears and bearings. To prevent wear damage consistent with low-quality transmission fluids and ruptured fluid film, AMSOIL formulated AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid with high film strength for shear stability and premium anti-wear/extreme-pressure additives that develops a boundary layer of protection between metal surfaces. AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF protects transmissions during severe-duty service.
Friction Durability to Ensure Consistent, Smooth Clutch Engagement and No Hard Shifting
Today's transmissions are smaller and must withstand higher horsepower and torque while delivering smoother shifts, all with longer fluid life recommendations. AMSOIL Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid is formulated with friction modifier additives that deliver outstanding clutch-holding capacity, torque-transfer ability and anti-shudder properties to prevent slipping torque converter clutches. AMSOIL Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF ensures consistent, smooth clutch engagement with no hard shifting throughout the life of the fluid.
Multi Vehicle Fluid Simplifies Inventories, Prevents Misapplications
AMSOIL Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid is a multi-functional fluid that greatly reduces the need for specialized fluid inventories and the possibilities of misapplication, eliminating confusion and simplifying inventory requirements. It is recommended for a wide range of transmissions, hydraulics, power steering and other applications.
Fully Fortified
AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is formulated with the highest-quality synthetic fluids and additives. It is fully fortified:
- Anti-wear/extreme-pressure agents to extend gear life
- Durable friction modifiers prevent shudder
- Anti-oxidants extend fluid life
- Seal conditioners reduce leaks
- Detergents and dispersants keep clean and control deposits
- Corrosion inhibitors control rust
- Anti-foam agents improve hydraulic function
Eliminates the Need for Automatic Transmission Additives
AMSOIL Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid eliminates the need for costly and suspect "one-treatment-covers-all" ATF additives. AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle ATF is properly formulated under the strictest quality control procedures to provide superior lubrication performance (prevent slipping, hesitation, hard shifting and seal leaks in transmissions) and aftermarket ATF additives are not required. In fact, aftermarket automatic transmission additives could upset the chemical balance of the AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle ATF and void the AMSOIL warranty.
Extended ATF Life
AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is a long-life fluid capable of extended service intervals. It provides an extra margin of protection, especially when fluid change intervals are missed, during heavy use and even during abuse. Most drivers are unaware that transmissions commonly operate under severe service and require shorter fluid drain intervals — transmissions are subjected to extensive idling, frequent short trips, cold-temperature driving, sustained hot-weather driving or trailer towing. Drivers can count on AMSOIL Multi-Vehicle Synthetic ATF to provide protection beyond conventional fluids.
AMSOIL Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid is recommended for use up to 50,000 miles under severe service* and up to 100,000 miles under normal service*, or according to the vehicle manufacturer recommended intervals, whichever is longer.
*As defined by vehicle or transmission manufacturer
