Nanofiber is a phrase generally referring to a fiber with a diameter less than one micron.

Less Restriction

AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters have lower restriction than conventional cellulose media filters. Their small synthetic nanofibers trap smaller particles and hold more contaminants, resulting in lower restriction and, therefore, providing a higher level of engine protection.

As shown in the photos, cellulose fibers are larger than nanofibers and have larger spaces between the fibers, causing the contaminants to load inside the depth of the media and plug the flow path, resulting in higher restriction and less capacity. The fibers in synthetic media have submicron diameters (nanofibers) and small inter-fiber spaces, which result in more contaminants being captured on the surface of the media and lower restriction. This results in greater efficiency and capacity than cellulose filters, as well as better durability and longer service life. Lower restriction decreases engine wear.

And, during cold-temperature warm-up periods, an Ea Oil Filter allows the oil to flow through the filter more easily than a typical cellulose filter does.

Oil Filtration Basics

Clean oil is vital to engine performance and durability. Oil must lubricate, cool and clean the engine as it circulates. In order to remain effective, oil must be filtered as it cycles. Internal sources of oil contamination include wear products from the rubbing surfaces of the engine, blow by gases leaking past the rings of the pistons and degradation of the oil itself. The oil filter removes these contaminants, preventing them from reaching sensitive engine parts, without restricting normal oil flow to the various parts of the engine requiring lubrication. A filter must perform well in the areas of efficiency, capacity, flow and filter life.

Absolute Efficiency

Efficiency is the filter's ability to capture contaminants. The more efficient an oil filter is, the more contaminants it will remove from the oil. To make an oil filter more efficient, the spaces between the fibers in the media are made smaller, creating more resistance and limiting the oil's ability to flow through the filter. Achieving maximum efficiency along with limited resistance is critical to good filtration.

Maximum Capacity

A filter's capacity refers to the amount of contaminants a filter can hold and still remain effective. When an oil filter reaches maximum capacity, the oil bypasses the filter and continues to circulate, unfiltered, throughout the engine. When an oil filter reaches maximum capacity it also reaches the end of its life and must be changed.

Oil Filter Flow

Proper oil flow is essential to keep moving parts lubricated at all times. A filter without adequate flow properties can cause catastrophic engine failure. Flow is restricted as the spacing in the filter media is made smaller to provide greater efficiency. Over the service life of a conventional cellulose filter, hot oil will degrade the resins that bind the media. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters' full synthetic media technology is resin-free. It uses a wire screen backing that is pleated with the media for superior strength. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are constructed with HNBR nitrile gaskets that are fully tested to extreme distances in numerous severe environments. The filters also feature fully tucked seams, a molded element seal, roll-formed threads and a long-lasting premium-grade silicone anti-drainback valve.

• Ea Oil Filters designated with the product code Ea15K are recommended for 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal or severe service.
• Ea Oil Filters designated with the product code EaO are recommended for 25,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal service or 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in severe service.

Note: For your convenience, AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil has the same oil drain interval as AMSOIL EaO Oil Filters.

When AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are used with a motor oil other than an extended-drain AMSOIL motor oil, the filter should be changed according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. AMSOIL recommends changing the oil filter at the time of oil change.
