Helps Maintain Proper Motorcycle Oil Pressure in Extreme Heat Conditions

In high heat conditions, engine protection is not sacrificed with AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil. It has exceptional high-temperature film strength, contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of operating conditions and helps maintain oil pressure in extreme heat conditions. AMSOIL Motorcycle SAE 60 Oil is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation inhibitor additives. It is extremely resistant to breakdown and engineered to prevent damaging sludge and carbon deposits for superior engine cleanliness.

With AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil, there is no need for a separate transmission fluid. It is shear-stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity. AMSOIL Motorcycle SAE 60 Oil performs like a gear lube without the negative effects of extreme-pressure additives. It meets SAE 140, API GL-1 gear oil requirements.

Superior Rust Protection

Motorcycles are prone to rust from storage, humidity and short drives. Rust can cause major damage such as roller bearing failure, uncontrolled wear, compression loss and blow-by. Good rust protection, however, comes by design and is not natural to engine oils. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil contains special anti-rust agents.

What is the Best Oil for Harley Davidson?

AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of the operating conditions. The Four Ball Wear Test (ASTM D-4172) determines the wear protection properties of a lubricant — the smaller the average wear scar, the better the wear protection provided by the lubricant. As shown in the chart below, AMSOIL Motorcycle SAE 60 Oil produces a significantly smaller wear scar than Harley Davidson HD 360 SAE 60 Motorcycle Oil, providing unsurpassed protection against engine wear, reducing maintenance costs and extending equipment life.

The High Temperature/High Shear (HTHS) Test (ASTM D-4683) measures viscosity and the rate of temporary and permanent viscosity loss of an oil under severe high temperature and shear conditions. The more resistant an oil is to high-temperature viscosity loss, the better it protects — even a HTHS difference of 0.1 cP makes a significant difference. As shown in the chart below, AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil does a better job than Harley Davidson HD 360 SAE 60 Motorcycle Oil at maintaining its viscosity and is, therefore, better at preventing bearing wear.

Excellent Wet Clutch Performance

AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil contains no friction modifiers and promotes smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement. It controls heat and helps prevent slippage and glazing, while its high TBN helps improve clutch life by resisting the acids that can degrade clutch material.

AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil can extend drain intervals far beyond those recommended for conventional oils. Their unique synthetic formulation provides a service life up to two times longer than manufacturers' recommendations and offers the best protection against wear, making AMSOIL Motorcycle SAE 60 Oil extremely cost effective at keeping the costs of operating and maintaining motorcycles down.

On-road use in engines and transmissions:

Up to two times the motorcycle manufacturer's recommendation (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

Off-road use in engines and transmissions:

Use the oil drain recommendation of the motorcycle manufacturer.

Racing or in engines modified from the original factory design:

No change interval recommendation is made. Oil changes are at the owner's discretion.

Oil Filter Service Intervals

For best performance, use AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters, which are designed for extended oil drain intervals. They stop smaller particles, allow more oil flow and last longer than regular filters. If using an AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filter, install a new oil filter at time of oil change, then change at twice the motorcycle manufacturer's change interval or one year, whichever comes first. Change other brand oil filters at standard intervals.

Applications

AMSOIL SAE 60 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil is recommended for use in early-model air-cooled V-Twin engines where a 60-weight motor oil is specified. SAE 60 motor oils are commonly used in Harley-Davidson Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead and big-bore motorcycles. Not recommended for use in cold-temperature environments.
