The higher the Total Base Number (TBN), the more effective the oil is and the longer it will last. AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oils contain a TBN of 12.6, whereas other passenger car motor oils offer only 7 TBN and are formulated with detergents that quickly lose TBN value.
With TBN loss, oils lose their ability to neutralize acids, prevent high-temperature deposits and inhibit rust. TBN loss is a primary reason oils require changing. AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oils are designed to maximize energy efficiency and improve fuel economy. Unlike conventional oils, their uniform molecular structure helps them flow more freely and reduce friction between metal surfaces. Anti-friction additives are included to further improve energy efficiency.
Note: As stricter fuel economy standards are being set, auto makers are turning to low-viscosity oils (such as 0w20 and 0w30 motor oils) for their fuel economy performance. Retains Oil Viscosity
AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oils exceed the most demanding worldwide performance standards and dramatically outperform conventional petroleum oils. AMSOIL Signature Series 0w20, 0w30, 5w30 and 10w30 Synthetic Motor Oils surpass the North American SAE and European ACEA oil specification for high-temperature/high-shear viscosity, which means they won't shear back to a lower viscosity oil in the high-temperature/high-shear conditions of today's small, high rpm engines. AMSOIL 0w20 remains a 0w20, AMSOIL 0w30 remains a 0w30, AMSOIL 5w20 remains a 5w20, AMSOIL 5w30 remains a 5w30 and AMSOIL 10w30 remains a 10w30.
Service Life
AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oils are recommended for extended oil drain intervals in unmodified, mechanically sound gasoline-fueled vehicles as follows:
Gasoline Engines:
Normal Service: Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first
Severe Service: Up to 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first
Non-Gasoline Engines:
Extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) oil drain interval recommendation.
Definitions:
Modified Engines — Engines operating under modified conditions are excluded from extended drain recommendations. Examples include the use of performance computer chips; non-OEM approved exhaust, fuel or air induction systems; and the use of fuels other than those recommended for normal operation by the manufacturers.
Mechanically Sound Engines — Engines in good working condition and do not, for example, leak oil or consume excessive amounts of oil, are not worn out, do not overheat, do not leak antifreeze and have properly working emissions control systems. AMSOIL recommends repairing malfunctioning engines prior to the installation of AMSOIL synthetic oils.
Normal Service — Personal transportation vehicles frequently traveling greater than 10 miles (16 km) at a time and not operating under severe service.
Severe Service — Turbo/supercharged engines, commercial or fleet vehicles, excessive engine idling, vehicles with over 100,000 miles without prior regular use of AMSOIL motor oil, daily short trip driving (less than 10 miles/16km), frequent towing, plowing, hauling or dusty-condition driving.
Oil Filter Service Intervals
Extended oil drain intervals are based on the user following AMSOIL recommended oil filter service intervals:
- If using an AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters, install a new oil filter at time of oil change. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are designed for extended oil drain intervals. They stop smaller particles, allow more oil flow and last longer than regular filters.
- If using other brands of oil filters, install a new oil filter at time of oil change then change at the engine manufacturer's recommended filter change intervals.
Good to Know
- For best results, use AMSOIL Engine and Transmission Flush before installing AMSOIL synthetic motor oil.
- For maximum engine protection, use an AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter and an AMSOIL Ea Air Filter.
- AMSOIL recommends checking the oil at a minimum of every 3,000 miles to maintain proper fill levels and maximum engine protection.
- Oil Analyzers, Inc., a division of AMSOIL, Inc., provides cost effective, quality oil analysis services.
- Most quick lube service centers will install these products upon request or install them yourself.
