"The lubrication
industry has seen major changes since I introduced the first
synthetic motor oil back in 1972, but the one thing that has not
changed is the quality and performance engineered into all
AMSOIL lubricants. It's no accident that automotive oil drain
intervals were pegged at 2,000 miles back then. That was an
accurate reflection of the quality of the motor oils being used
then. Running longer between changes with those oils would have
resulted in sludge and deposit buildup that could shorten the
life of an engine. That's why my oil's 25,000-mile or one-year
drain interval recommendation shook up the industry and caused
so much controversy. Running any motor oil that long was unheard
of!

What does it take to make the longest lasting motor oil
in the market?

Synthetic base stocks - Because of their
outstanding ability to withstand the heat of the engine without
breaking down, synthetic base stocks last longer. Base stock
breakdown ends an oil's functional life and fouls engines with
sludge, varnish and acids. AMSOIL is made from the best synthetic
base stock.

Top quality additives - Premium-quality,
long-life additives keep oils in spec over the long drain. Inferior
additives allow oils to slip below their specified viscosity and allow
acids to build and debris to fall out before reaching the filter,
leading to corrosion, wear and sludge buildup.

Commitment - Virtually any oil company could put
together an extended drain oil. The base stocks, additive systems and
basic know-how are available. AMSOIL believes it pays to add
high-quality additives to a long-life synthetic base stock -- it pays in

of tests we ran on our motorcycle oils comparing them to the
competition's oils. We published the results in our
Motorcycle White
Paper (1.16 MB pdf). First, you will be surprised at the
number of performance tests. But you also may be surprised that
we published the results of the tests where our oils were not
the top performers. In other words, the tests were run and the
results published regardless of how our oils fared. We let the
chips fall where they may. Granted, we were only beaten in a few
tests and not by much, but nonetheless, we published the honest
