Premium Diesel Oil for Pre-2007 Over-the-Road Diesel Trucks
and All Marine Engines, Farm and Industrial Equipment

Controls Soot Loading from Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems and Blowby

AMSOIL Heavy Duty Synthetic 15w40 Diesel Marine OilAMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil is a premium diesel oil engineered for pre-2007 over-the-road diesel truck engines as well as all model year diesel engines in off-road applications. It has been put to the test over millions of miles in heavy-duty trucks. It is proven to provide unsurpassed engine protection, even when used much longer than conventional diesel oils are used.

AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil provides clean engine performance. Built with heavy-duty dispersant/detergent additives, its high 12-TBN chemistry neutralizes acids and controls soot loading from exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and blow-by to protect against corrosion, cylinder bore polishing (wear), ring sticking and varnish and sludge deposits. AMSOIL 15w40 Diesel Marine Oil resists heat and breakdown better than conventional petroleum oils for long lasting performance and protection. Extended oil change intervals reduce downtime, motor oil expenses and waste oil disposal costs.

Offers Better Fuel Economy, Reduces Oil Consumption and Emissions

AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil has lower volatility (evaporation) than conventional petroleum oils. Lower volatility means AMSOIL 15w40 Diesel Marine Oil retains its viscosity at temperatures and loads that break down conventional oils, offering better fuel economy and continued dependable protection. Lower volatility also means less make-up oil is required to replace volatilized oil and less oil vapor gets into the combustion chamber, reducing oil consumption and exhaust emissions.

Controls Excessive Soot Loading Found in EGR Diesel Engines

AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil is heavily fortified with detergent/dispersant additives and is naturally resistant to soot. It is designed to keep soot particles suspended independently, preventing them from attaching together to form larger, wear-causing particles. Viscosity increase is minimized and soot-related diesel engine wear is controlled.

Excels in Cold Weather

Unlike conventional petroleum oils, AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil contains no wax. It stays fluid down to -44°F for improved cold-temperature oil flow, providing vital start-up lubrication for easier starts and reduced wear. AMSOIL 15w40 Diesel Marine Oil outperforms conventional 15w40 petroleum oils and greatly minimizes the impact of cold weather operation.

All-Season Oil — Eliminates the Need for Special Inventories of Seasonal Oils

AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil will not shear back to a lower viscosity. This is especially important for engines that operate continually at constant speed, such as stationary engines, marine engines and farm tractors. Traditionally, such engines have been lubricated with high-viscosity single-grade oils, such as SAE 40, to avoid oil shear-back (which sometimes occurs with multi-viscosity oils using low-quality viscosity index improvers). However, single-grade oils are too thick to allow easy starting and quick engine lubrication in cold temperatures. AMSOIL 15w40 Diesel Marine Oil provides the high-temperature protection of an SAE 40 and the low-temperature pumpability of a 15W oil throughout its entire service life. All-season, all-temperature AMSOIL 15w40 Diesel Marine Oil eliminates the need for special inventories of seasonal oils.

Prevents Rust and Corrosion — Important to Marine Engines and Farm Equipment

AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil contains special rust and corrosion inhibitors that protect engines from internal rust, which is especially important for marine engines or equipment that is stored long-term, such as farm equipment.

Less Foam Means Better Drivability

AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oil Foam Test ComparisonsSome vehicles have been known to suffer drive-ability problems due to oil foaming. Foamy oil interferes with fuel injection, which reduces engine power. The ASTM D892 Foam Test, Sequences 2 and 4, are used to evaluate diesel oils on their foaming characteristics.

According to test results, AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oils are clearly less prone to foaming (see graph). Not only are AMSOIL Synthetic Diesels Oils less prone to foaming, they also dissipate foam more quickly and excel in comparison to Shell Rotella T, a popular diesel oil often recommended by some engine manufacturers.

Outstanding All-Fleet Performance (Diesel and Gasoline Engines)

AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil exceeds the performance specifications of all major American and European truck manufacturers. Though it is designed for diesel engines, it may also be used in gasoline engines, so separate oils for diesel and gasoline powered equipment or vehicles are not needed.

Extended Oil Change Intervals

AMSOIL Heavy Duty 15w40 Synthetic Diesel Marine Oil is a proven long-drain oil and can extend oil change intervals far beyond those recommended for conventional oils. Its unique synthetic formulation and long-drain additive system delivers maximum engine protection, cleanliness and performance over extended oil drain intervals, reducing vehicle maintenance and waste oil disposal costs. AMSOIL 15w40 Diesel Marine Motor Oil is recommended for extended oil change intervals in unmodified, mechanically sound vehicles or equipment as follows:

Diesel Engine Service:

Three times (3X) OEM* recommendation, not to exceed 50,000 miles/600 hours or one year, whichever comes first. Drain intervals may be extended further with oil analysis.

Gasoline Engine Service:

Two times 2(X) OEM* recommendation, not to exceed 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

*Original Equipment Manufacturer. Operating conditions and drain intervals for severe and normal service are defined by the OEM. Refer to your owner's manual.

Note: extended oil drain intervals are not recommended when using biofuels containing >10% ethanol or 5% biodiesel (B5). Follow OEM drain intervals or extend drain intervals with oil analysis.

Oil Filter Service Intervals

Extended oil change intervals are based on the user following AMSOIL recommended oil filter service intervals. Install a new oil filter at time of oil change.

  • AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters and Donaldson Endurance Oil Filters are full flow oil filters designed for extended oil drain intervals. They stop smaller particles, have less restriction and last longer than regular oil filters. For best performance, use AMSOIL Ea or Donaldson Endurance oil filters. If using other brands of oil filters, install a new oil filter at time of oil change then change at the OEM's (original engine manufacturer) recommended filter change intervals.
  • For maximum engine and oil life, AMSOIL Ea Bypass Oil Filters are specialized for the removal of small, wear-causing dirt particles. These filters are placed outside the main line of oil circulation, using an AMSOIL Bypass Oil Filtration System mount.
  • Please visit our Oil Filter page to see all of these products and more.
