A Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid – Another First From AMSOIL!
Each automobile manufacturer has specific requirements
and preferences when it comes to automatic transmission fluids (ATF). General
Motors recommends
Dexron
II and Dexron III, Ford uses the Mercon and Mercon
V and Chrysler recommends their ATF+ through ATF+4 transmissions fluids in
their vehicles. AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid is the first ATF
to meet all the different major auto manufacturer requirements.
It also meets the performance requirements for domestic
and foreign automatic transmission fluid applications as well.
AMSOIL Automatic Transmission
Fluid covers all the various auto applications that automatic
transmission fluids are designed for, providing automatic transmissions,
power steering units and hydraulic equipment with excellent
lubricating protection and better performance over a wider
temperature range than conventional automatic transmission
fluids. Its stable
formulation lasts longer in service than
conventional ATFs. It maintains its viscosity,
friction and lubricating properties for extended
periods of time, even under severe conditions.
AMSOIL ATF maximizes transmission performance and
service life while reducing maintenance costs
through longer drain intervals. |

Increasing Demands Are Being Placed on Transmission Fluids
Everyone knows that proper engine lubrication is essential to
improving engine performance and extending service life. Transmissions face
similar stresses and conditions that engines do in everyday
operation. Today's automatic transmissions are built to smaller design
specifications than yesterday's transmissions. Shorter
automobile frames and innovative drive train designs have called
for transmissions to be scaled down and, at the same time, have
tighter tolerances and higher energy densities than ever before.
These design changes have caused transmissions to
generate more heat, which has placed a demand on transmission fluids past anything the
industry has seen before. The combination of higher operating
temperatures and reduced oil volumes calls for fluids that can
not only maintain performance at higher temperatures, but must
also meet the longer service life that original equipment
manufacturers are recommending.
Mechanics Say a Quality ATF is the Best Defense Against
Automatic Transmission Breakdown
Of all the stresses that ATF encounters, heat is the most
destructive. Most automatic transmission failures are caused by
heat. Transmission life expectancy is directly related to how
well the fluid is able to disperse heat and maintain
temperatures within normal operating ranges. When conventional petroleum fluids are subjected to
high heat and heavy loads, they break down to form sludge and
varnish. Over time, these varnishes and lack of lubrication can
cause seals to harden, leaks to occur, plates to slip and,
finally, seals and clutches to burn out when the oil forms
carbon. Mechanics say a quality ATF is the best defense against
automatic transmission breakdown (a costly repair).
"I grew tired of reworking transmissions and changed to
AMSOIL Synthetic Transmission Fluid, resulting in a drastic
reduction in transmission failures." – G.H., Ozark, Alabama
Transmission Life is Cut in Half For Every 20°F Temperature
Increase
As operating temperatures increase, the service lives of the
transmission and the transmission fluid decrease due to
increased oxidation, viscosity breakdown and additive
degradation. In fact, for every 20°F temperature increase above
175°F, transmission life is cut in half (see chart below).
AMSOIL ATF typically reduces operating temperatures by as much
as 50°F.

AMSOIL Offers the Most Complete
Protection for Equipment
AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic
Transmission Fluid resists thermal and oxidative
degradation far better than conventional transmission fluids,
protecting clutches, planetary gears, valves, pumps and seals
from damaging sludge and varnish deposits.
To ensure protection for today's hot operating transmissions,
General Motors recently upgraded its DEXRON®-III
automatic transmission fluid specification. Fluids are now
required to go through a longer oxidation test, the Turbo Hydromatic Oxidation Test (THOT). The new specs require fluids
to maintain performance in the THOT for 450 hours, up from 300
hours. GM expects the new oxidation requirements will be the
most difficult for lubricant manufacturers to meet. But, as you
can see on the chart above, AMSOIL ATF exceeds the requirements
of the new DEXRON®-III
transmission fluid specification. AMSOIL ATF resists thermal and
oxidative degradation up to three times longer than conventional
fluids and twice as long as the new 450-hour DEXRON®-III test
requirement. AMSOIL ATF maintains its viscosity and resists
chemical breakdown, ensuring cooler, smoother transmission
operation.
Provides Protection Over a Wider Temperature Range
AMSOIL
Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid provides
automatic transmissions, power steering units and hydraulic
equipment with excellent lubricating protection and better
performance over a wider temperature range than conventional
automatic transmission fluids. AMSOIL ATF resists breakdown in temperatures up to 100°F higher
than conventional automatic transmission fluids.
Not only does AMSOIL Automatic Transmission Fluid cool and protect hot-running
transmissions far better than conventional fluids, but it also
remains fluid down to 52° below zero. The efficiency of an
automatic transmission is directly affected by the viscosity of
the transmission fluid. When temperatures drop and cause ATF to
thicken, transmission efficiency and power decline. Higher
quality automatic transmission fluids can have a profound impact
on transmission efficiency. Automatic transmission fluids with
lower cold-temperature pumpability properties effectively keep
transmissions running efficiently during cold weather,
maximizing both transmission power and fuel economy.
AMSOIL ATF offers
twice the cold-temperature fluidity required by current
automatic transmission fluid specifications. That means that
while some fluids barely circulate in a cold transmission,
AMSOIL ATF is on the job, providing outstanding lubrication and
protection, easier starts, faster warm-ups, smoother shifting
and improved fuel efficiency.
Offers Excellent Lubrication for Hydraulic Systems
AMSOIL
Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid's antiwear additive package
makes AMSOIL ATF an excellent lubricant in other
hydraulic systems. In tests designed to measure
wear characteristics under severe service and high
pressure operating conditions, AMSOIL ATF far
exceeds the requirements of hydraulic equipment
manufacturers.
Simplifies Inventories and Prevents Misapplications
AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic
Transmission Fluid is a universal, multi-functional fluid
that greatly reduces the need for specialized fluid inventories
and the possibilities of misapplication, eliminating confusion
and simplifying inventory requirements. It can be used in all
domestic and most foreign automatic transmissions, power
steering units and mobile or stationary hydraulic systems where
ATF is recommended.
Extended Service Life
Transmissions operate under severe service conditions. They are
subjected to extensive idling, frequent short trips, cold-temperature driving, sustained hot-weather driving or trailer
towing. If a conventional transmission fluid is used, it would
have to be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles.
AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid
is recommended for use up to 60,000 miles under severe service*
and up to 100,000 miles under normal service* or according to
the vehicle manufacturer recommended intervals, whichever is
longer. AMSOIL recommends thoroughly draining the transmission
and flushing with new AMSOIL ATF to achieve a minimum 90% purity
of new transmission fluid. Drain intervals may be extended
further with oil analysis.
* As defined by the vehicle or
transmission manufacturer.
Applications
AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid is recommended
for virtually all domestic and foreign automatic transmission
applications, including GM, Ford, Chrysler, Allison,
Caterpillar, Voith, ZF, Honda and Toyota. It is ideal for hot-weather towing and hot-running RV transmissions, protecting
equipment and keeping it running cool and trouble-free.
AMSOIL ATF is also excellent for
use in power steering units recommending ATF. In
addition, AMSOIL ATF is an excellent lubricant in mobile or
stationary hydraulic systems recommending ATF.
AMSOIL ATF is not recommended for use in CVT
transmissions.
