Filtration testing at
numerous test facilities provided data that substantiates a near
perfect absolute efficiency rating for AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters,
hence the name. The name Ea is derived from the formula for test
method ISO 5011, which deals with performance testing of air
cleaning equipment for internal combustion engines. Ea stands
for Absolute Efficiency. The formula is printed on the box. |

Better for the environment
| "Today, in the same way we
revolutionized the lubrication marketplace, we have the
potential of changing the automotive filtration market. Our new
Ea Air and Oil Filters deliver the same kind of superior
performance and long life capabilities as our synthetic oils did
many years ago. They are so much better than the competition,
there is no comparison." ~ A.J. "Al" Amatuzio, President and

Air Filter Basics
An engine needs air in order for combustion
to occur, but the air drawn in through the
induction system is loaded with contaminants.
There are over 400 tons of suspended dirt and
other contaminants in a cubic mile of air over a
typical city. The dirt and contaminants drawn
into an engine are the leading cause of engine
wear.
The air filter is the first line of defense against the
abrasive airborne grit that can cause engine damage. But in order to do
the job right, an air filter must effectively filter the dangerous
particles out of incoming air without obstructing the vital flow of air
to the engine. As the filter traps more and more contaminants, air flow
becomes restricted, smothering the engine and
diminishing performance. The more wear-causing
contaminants a filtration media traps and the
more contaminants the filtration media holds,
while still allowing optimum air flow, the
better the filtration media is.
Revolutionary Technology
Nanofiber technology has been used
exclusively in heavy-duty applications,
including the US ARMY Abrams M1 tank. AMSOIL has
brought this technology to the auto/light truck
market. Nanofiber is a phrase generally
referring to a fiber with a diameter less than
one micron. The revolutionary nanofiber technology used in AMSOIL
Ea™
Air Filters surpasses all other technology,
capturing more dirt, holding more dirt, and allowing
better air flow and a longer service life than conventional air filters.
Here's how it works: Imagine two filtration media, a
chain link fence and a mosquito net. Each is
required to stop contaminants, in this case
tennis balls. A tennis ball will fit quite
nicely into an opening of a chain link fence,
but will obstruct the hole almost 100 percent.
Now, imagine a tennis ball covering a mosquito
net. The tennis ball, at the point of contact
with the netting, will obstruct much less filter
area than the chain link fence example. In fact,
air will flow around the tennis ball all the way
to the point of contact. It will take many more
particles to obstruct the netting surface area
than the chain link fence.

Special Construction
AMSOIL
Ea™
Air Filters incorporate a specially constructed
cellulose media with exclusive synthetic nanofibers applied to the surface.
Synthetic nanofibers have submicron
diameters and small inter-fiber
spaces. As in the example mentioned above, the
synthetic nanofibers in an AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filter
trap dust and submicron particles on the
filter's surface, preventing them from lodging
in the filter media depth, resulting in more
contaminants being
captured and less air restriction. This is what
sets AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters apart from
conventional air filters in efficiency, capacity
and air flow. Better dirt removal and better air
flow translates into reduced engine wear, longer
engine life, better engine performance and
better fuel economy. And greater capacity
translates into cost savings and longer service
life.
|
Absolute Efficiency
Filter efficiency is a
the ability of a filter to stop dirt and other airborne
contaminants from entering the engine. The more efficient a
filter is, the more dirt and contaminants it stops. Air filters with poor efficiency fail to
trap a significant portion of particles large enough to damage the engine.
Extensive testing proves that AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters are the most efficient filters
available to the car/light truck market. As shown on the graph,
AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filter's
synthetic nanofiber media removes five times more dust than
traditional cellulose filter media alone and fifty times more
dust than wet gauze filter media.
|
More Capacity
Filter capacity is the
amount of contaminants a filter media can hold without loss of air flow and
filtration. A filter's ability to contain trapped contaminants
determines how well an engine will run and how long the filter
will remain effective. When the filter is full, air cannot pass
through at the rate necessary for proper engine performance. Air filters with poor capacity
will have to be replaced constantly.
As shown on the graph,
AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters hold up to two and a half times more contaminants
than cellulose air filters and fifteen times more contaminants
than a wet gauze filter. Since the nanofibers in the media are
so small there are more pores per square inch, allowing for
higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure drop when
compared to cellulose filter media alone. Thinner media fibers
produce more uniform pore size distribution, improving the
filter’s overall quality and ability to capture and retain
particles. The capacity of AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters is so great, in
fact, that they remain effective for a full 25,000 miles or one
year before cleaning.
|
Better Air Flow
Proper
air flow is vital to maximize performance and
engine life. Air is required to release the
energy from the fuel being used. It takes 1,200
cubic feet of air to combust one gallon of
gasoline. Inadequate air flow can cause serious
loss of power, poor performance and excessive
fuel consumption. Tests show that AMSOIL Ea™ Air
Filters have more than three times the air flow
of filters that use cellulose media alone, for
increased performance and fuel economy. Although
the wet gauze filter provided slightly better
air flow, it allowed a lot more dirt to flow
through and it didn't have anywhere near the
dirt-holding capacity, as you can see on the
graphs above. |

As shown in the photo, cellulose fibers are larger than
nanofibers and have larger spaces between the fibers,
causing the contaminants to load inside the depth of the
media and plug the airflow path, resulting in higher
restriction and less capacity.
AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters allow more airflow than filters that
use cellulose media alone. The synthetic nanofibers in the
Ea™ filter media have submicron diameters and small
interfiber spaces, which result in more contaminants being
captured on the surface of the media and less air
restriction. |
Cleanable - Longer Life
When cleaned according to AMSOIL specifications and used in
normal service, AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters are guaranteed for 100,000
miles or four years, whichever comes first. AMSOIL Ea™ Air
Filters remain effective for 25,000 miles or one year before
requiring cleaning. This coincides with the AMSOIL
25,000-mile/one-year motor oil drain interval, adding even more
convenience for motorists by consolidating routine maintenance.
(See below for cleaning instructions.)
Saves Money - Good for the Environment
Buying an AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filter makes good
old-fashioned dollar sense because it will save
you money. It is easily cleaned and reused and
is designed for years of dependable service. As
you can see on the chart below, one AMSOIL Ea™
Air Filter costs only slightly more than
conventional cellulose air filters, but it lasts
eight times times longer. Conventional cellulose
filters must be thrown away and replaced every
six months, which is quite costly. Over a
four-year period, an AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filter can
save you as much as 424%! And, not only does an
AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filter pay for itself, there are
also fewer dirty air filters to throw away,
which is better for the environment! See the
savings below:

Applications
AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters provide superior air filtration for
vehicles in the auto/light truck market.
Cleaning
AMSOIL
Ea™ Air Filters should be cleaned every year or 25,000 miles,
whichever comes first. Carefully remove the filter from the
housing. Clean the housing with a shop towel, being careful not
to knock contaminants into the air inlet. Filters can be cleaned
by carefully vacuuming the filter media on the dirty side, or by
holding the filter with one hand and carefully blowing the
filter media at a 45 degree angle on the clean side using
low-pressure shop air (15-20 lbs. psi).
Service Life
AMSOIL Ea™ Air Filters are guaranteed for four years or
100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The guarantee applies only
if the filter has been serviced according to AMSOIL
recommendations. In off-road, frequently dusty or other severe
duty applications, clean and change more often as determined by
operating conditions or as indicated by restriction gauge.
